Beach: Barra de Santiago

Saturday we set out early for a quick trip to El Salvador and the beach.  Destination: Barra de Santiago, a thin peninsula with the Pacific Ocean on one side and a mangrove lined estuary on the other.  It’s a pretty, quite spot with only 2 hotels and 1 sandy, dirt road.

The first adventure was getting out of Guatemala.  The highway took a very dusty detour for quite a while.

The border crossing was pretty easy, too easy actually as we learned upon re-entry that they hadn’t properly processed our entry.  This car was parked in front of immigration on El Salvador side.

Evidently El Salvador is where US Mail trucks go for their 2nd career.  There was a steady stream of them heading South.

We finally made it to El Salvador only to be stopped by cows.

And then we finally made it to Barra de Santiago......and the beach.

Once back to Guatemala, we decided to detour briefly on the way home for some African wildlife viewing at the AutoSafari.
