I headed to Copan Ruinas, Honduras for the 3-day Christmas weekend. Copan is just over the border from Guatemala, about a 5 hour bus ride from Guatemala City and a pretty easy border crossing.

Friday happened to be the day after Peace Corps announced it was pulling out of Honduras. That made the front page of the national newspaper and I was surprised to hear it come up in conversation more than once over the weekend.
Spent the 1st afternoon in a bird sanctuary/nature area.

Saturday I wandered out to an hacienda outside of town and took a quick hike to a very small archeological site and a little village called La Pintada.

Then spent the afternoon on a zip line. They had recently moved the zip line to make it bigger and longer and I was told I was the first full paying customer to go on the course. That was pretty evident when we got to the end of some of the runs and there were still guys working on finishing the stairs to get off the platforms.

On Sunday I went to the Copan archeological site and a less-visited site called Las Sepulturas.

Around the town of Copan Ruinas.....
