I spent Monday-Wednesday of last week on a work trip to Sierra de las Minas Biosphere Reserve (SMBR) in the eastern part of Guatemala. The core part of SMBR is a cloud forest and is one of the best places to see quetzals in Guatemala (we saw quite a few). After spending Monday night in cabins in the nuclear zone of the park, we then stopped to see some coffee projects, fire management areas, and a marble quarry.
Hard to tell, but this really is a quetzal
And here it is flying away
Agro-forestry system for organic coffee
Drying coffee
Preventative burning for forest fire control
Marble quarry/cutting
